Kansas City Area Transportation Authority or better known as The Metro or The ATA is the transit service of the Kansas City metropolitan area.
Overview
The Kansas City area has been served by transit service since 1925. Former operators include the Kansas City Public Service Company, which operated from 1925 until 1960, and Kansas City Transit which provided service from 1960 until 1969.
In 1965 the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority or ATA was created as the result of legislation passed by the states of Missouri and Kansas. This legislation gave the ATA authority to plan, construct, own, and operate transportation systems within the seven county Kansas City metropolitan area.1
Today the ATA operates multiple types of transportation services. These include Bus Rapid Transit, van-pool, demand-response fixed bus service, para-transit, and regular fixed route bus service.
