This month, [[Durham Region Transit]] launched an electric, autonomous vehicle trial in Whitby. The six-kilometre shuttle route begins and ends at the [[Whitby GO Station]], making a loop through the Port Whitby area. Service is provided by an [https://localmotors.com/product/ Olli] vehicle from [https://localmotors.com Local Motors].
On November 22, 2021, [[Ontario Northland]] ran a test train of two locomotives, three Hawker Siddeley coaches, and an Auxiliary Power Control Unit from North Bay to Toronto and back. This was part of a study of the feasibility of bringing back The Northlander service. Ontario Northland has not operated train service to Toronto since 2012 when The Northlander was discontinued.
