The buses have seating for 38 passengers or 32 passengers and two wheelchairs. Behind the driver, there is a pair of foward facing seats. There are three perimeter seats on either side behind the font wheel wells which also serve as space for wheelchairs. Following these seats, there is a partition followed by a single perimeter seat on the door's side. The remaining seats to the rear door are in a transverse arrangement. There is a step up to a high floor section after the rear door with seating in a transverse arrangement. Seat frames are in blue and seat inserts are in Holdsworth Fabrics's blue crescents moquette. The floor is done in an Altro Transflor charcoal base with white and green specles. These buses have a wide front door with a wheelchair ramp and a narrow rear door that uses an optic sensor for operation by passengers. Heating, cooling and ventilation are provided by a roof-mounted Carrier unit. Passenger windows are of the tip-in transom design. These buses are equipped with GFI Cents A Bill fare boxes.

The buses received the current DRT livery (8152 received light green bumpers which were later replaced). Inside, the driver's side wheelchair area was rearranged for the wheelchair to face the rear as on the New Flyers. Seat inserts were redone in Holdsworth #YSW24954 moquette as used on the New Flyers and recent refurbishments, but the bottom inserts on the facing pairs are in black vinyl. The black vinyl inserts are easier to clean and more durable than the wool when passengers rest their feet on these seats. The buses also received an EMP MiniHybrid engine cooling system retrofit.

Revision as of 12:34, 28 November 2020

Durham Region Transit 8151-8152 are Nova Bus LFS buses built in 2001 and acquired by (Durham Region Transit) DRT in 2006. They were originally delivered new to Oshawa Transit Commission (OTC) as 151-152, and they were their first low floor buses.

The buses have seating for 38 passengers or 32 passengers and two wheelchairs. These buses have a wide front door with a wheelchair ramp and a narrow rear door that uses an optic sensor for operation by passengers. Two wheelchair areas are located immediately behind the front wheel housings. Heating, cooling and ventilation are provided by a roof-mounted Carrier unit. These buses are equipped with GFI Cents A Bill fare boxes. They were fitted with Sportwork bike racks and Presto card readers in 2009.

Before the formation of DRT, the buses wore the blue and yellow OTC livery. Shortly after the merger in 2006, they received the DRT grey and green stripes with logos.

Refurbishment

A tender was issued in November 2010 for the refurbishment of 8152. Three bids were received: Eastway Refurbishing ($153,483.25), MTB Truck and Bus Collision ($155,241.60), and Prevost Parts ($200,960.20). Bus 8151 was refurbished along with 8152 under a separate contract. Four bids were received: Eastway Refurbishing ($224,364.48), American Transit Works ($266,310.00), MMM Bus Division Inc ($282,055.98), and Prevost Car ($314,543.06). Both contracts were awarded to Eastway.
