The Dumbarton Express service consists of two bus lines, the DB and DB1. It is administered and governed by AC Transit, with oversight by the Dumbarton Bridge Regional Operations Consortium (DBROC), and comprised of AC Transit, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), BART, SamTrans and Union City Transit. Operated and maintained by MV Transportation, the Dumbarton Express is funded by Regional Measure 2.[1]

History

The Dumbarton Express route started up on September 10, 1984. It was originally funded by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission as a 1 year demonstration project. AC Transit ran the route initially using Gillig Phantoms (1450 series) running out of the Newark yard, and later Phantoms out of the Hayward division (1400-1459) along with Flyers (ranging from 1136-1169). Later the contract was awarded to Peninsula Charter Lines in East Palo Alto. Ever since PCL had the contract, it has bounced around between various contractors including AC Transit.
