History

[1]

  • June 1, 1925 - Service begins as a Detroit Street Railway route, operating along Chalmers Street between 7 Mile and East Jefferson Avenue, looping via Kercheval and Marlborough Streets to Jefferson.
  • November 25, 1940 - Service extended south past Jefferson via Jefferson, Manistique Street and Scripps Street to Lakewood Street, returning via Korte and Phillip Streets, replacing portions of the newly-discontinued Continental route.
  • July 1, 1974 - Service carried on by DDOT.
  • 1988 - Service extended north to 8 Mile and Waltham during weekday rush hours, replacing portions of the discontinued 42 Schoenherr-Redmond route; while service south of Jefferson is discontinued.
  • 1992 - Service extended east to the Wayburn Loop.
  • September 1, 2018 - To accommodate route number usage for the ConnectTen network, this route was renamed 68 Chalmers.
