9 Chalmers is a bus route operated by the Detroit Department of Transportation in Detroit, Michigan, United States.
Route Details
This route, the second-oldest bus route in Detroit, travels through Detroit's east side on several roads between terminuses at the Wayburn Loop in Grosse Pointe Park and Gratiot Avenue and 7 Mile Road. During weekday rush hours, service continues past Gratiot to 8 Mile Road and Waltham Street.
History
- June 1, 1925 - Service begins as a Detroit Street Railway route, operating along Chalmers Street between 7 Mile and East Jefferson Avenue, looping via Kercheval and Marlborough Streets to Jefferson.
- November 25, 1940 - Service extended south past Jefferson via Jefferson, Manistique Street and Scripps Street to Lakewood Street, returning via Korte and Phillip Streets, replacing portions of the newly-discontinued Continental route.
- July 1, 1974 - Service carried on by DDOT.
- 1988 - Service extended north to 8 Mile and Waltham during weekday rush hours, replacing portions of the discontinued 42 Schoenherr-Redmond route; while service south of Jefferson is discontinued.
- 1992 - Service extended east to the Wayburn Loop.
