The Cummins ISM is an inline six cylinder, 10.8 litre diesel engine. Cummins introduced their Interact System electronic controls to the M11 in 1998. Other changes to the engine included dual-pulse fuel injection and a redesigned piston bowl. The updated engine was called the ISM.
In 2002, cooled EGR, a variable geometry turbocharger, and electronic fuel injection were added to the ISM to help meet EPA 2004 standards. To meet the lower particulate matter level for EPA 2007, a particulate filter was made standard.[1] On July 20, 2010 the ISM was retired from on-highway use in North America.[2] It was replaced by the Cummins ISX11.9 (now known as the ISX12). The ISMe (Euro model) is still available to Euro 5 standards.
