Cummins B Series
The Cummins B Series was a 4- or 6-cylinder, inline, diesel engine. The 4-cylinder engine had a 3.9 litre displacement (B3.9), and the 6 -cylinder model had a 5.9 litre displacement (B5.9). The B Series engine was introduced in 1984 as an agricultural engine in Case agricultural equipment. It was developed though a joint venture between Cummins and Case called Consolidated Diesel Corp. This engine later became popular in light to medium sized commercial trucks and buses.
In 1997, Cummins added new electronics to the B5.9 and designated this model the B5.9E. The 12-valve B5.9 was updated in 1998 with 24, Bosch VP44 injection pumps, and new electronics under Cummins' Interact System. This engine became known as the Cummins ISB.
