502 Langley Centre/Surrey Central Station TransLink Accessible bullet-b.png is a bus route operated by Coast Mountain Bus Company in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Route Details

This is an east-west inter-regional bus route connecting City of Langley with SkyTrain service in Central Surrey via Brookswood. It is a Frequent Transit Network (FTN) route with service every 15 minutes or better for 15 hours or more of the day, seven days a week.

The route departs Surrey Central Station taking City Parkway, 102nd Avenue onto Old Yale Road becoming 100th avenue followed by Whalley Boulevard to the Fraser Highway eastbound. The route exits the Fraser Highway onto 203rd Street northbound onto Logan Avenue to terminate at Langley Centre.

Trips westbound to Surrey Central begin from Bay 1 at Langley Centre. They then take a right at Fraser Highway, where it continues until it reaches King George Boulevard, where it makes a right turn. Trips terminate at Surrey Central by exiting King George Boulevard northbound to 104th Avenue onto University Drive.

History

  • July 1988 - Service introduced as 502 Fernridge/Brookswood/Langley Centre[1]
  • March 1990 - Peak hour trips revised to terminate at Scott Road Station instead of New Westminster Station[2]
  • September 1996 - Orion II models introduced to route under BC Transit's short-lived CUB (CommUnity Bus) program[3]
  • September 1997 - Morning service revised to terminate at King George Station instead of Surrey Central[4]
  • December 2002 - Aldergrove service introduced as a direct service replacing routes 506 Aldergrove/Langley Centre and 511 Aldergrove/Langley Centre[5]
  • April 2003 - Route became bike rack equipped[6]
  • June 2007 - Route joined the Frequent Transit Network (FTN)[7]
  • September 2007 - BC Transit Route 21 Aldergrove Connector starts operation[8]
  • April 2009 - Service to Aldergrove improved to half hourly on all days[9]
  • June 2014 - Route was truncated to Langley Centre, and peak hour trips to Brookswood. Service to Aldergrove and Salmon River (via 240th Street, 56th Avenue, and 248th Street) replaced with the 503 Aldergrove/Surrey Central Station[10]
  • September 2016 - Brookswood trips discontinued[11]
  • April 2017 - Service extended to 2am Monday thru Saturday [12]
  • Spring 2017 - Westbound trips re-routed from City Parkway to University Boulevard into Surrey Central Station
  • September 2019 - Significant re-organizing of service between Langley Centre and Surrey Central Station from the cancellation of what would have became the Fraser Highway B-Line results in reduction of service and shifting of resources to the 503 Express[13]
