321 White Rock Centre/Surrey Central Station TransLink Accessible bullet-b.png is a bus route operated by Coast Mountain Bus Company in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Route Details

This north-south route connects Central Surrey with the communities of South Surrey and White Rock. It is a Frequent Transit Network (FTN) route with service 15 minutes or better for 15 hours or more of the day, seven days a week.

The route departs Surrey Central Station by City Parkway taking 102nd Avenue westbound, University Drive, Old Yale Road and then King George Boulevard south. The route turns onto 72nd Avenue to service Newton Exchange before turning southbound onto 138th Street becoming 68th Avenue and then back onto King George Boulevard south until 152nd Street. The route continues down 152nd Street turning onto Martin Drive, west on Thrift Avenue, north on Johnston, east on North Bluff Road, and north on 152nd Street to White Rock Centre.

Select trips operate as 321 White Rock South, travelling along the same route until south on 152nd Street and then east on North Bluff to access the King George Boulevard. Heading south along King George the route continues onto 8th Avenue eastbound to make a loop at the Highway 99 Interchange back onto 8th and then King George, terminating on King George at 11th Avenue.

Northbound trips from White Rock South depart from King George Boulevard at 11th Avenue and route by North Bluff Road onto 152nd Street at White Rock Centre. Trips terminate at Surrey Central by taking King George Boulevard onto 102nd Avenue and then City Parkway. Trips from White Rock Centre depart from Johnston at Thrift heading north on Johnston, east on North Bluff, north on 152nd.

Frequent Transit Network service is provided between White Rock Centre and Surrey Central Station as 321 White Rock Centre. Only peak morning and evening (from 8:00PM) hourly service is provided between Surrey Central Station and King George at 11th Avenue. The first northbound weekday trip to Surrey Central departs from 16th Avenue (North Bluff Road) at King George. Late evening southbound trips route from South Surrey Park & Ride by King George Boulevard onto 152nd and then North Bluff, bypassing Martin Drive.

Sundays feature two special service routing as SkyTrain service does not begin until 7:08AM. One special trip departs Surrey Central Station from Bay 9 routing to Scott Road Station and then New Westminster Station via Scott Road, King George, Pattullo Bridge, McBride, Columbia and then 8th Street. Two trips southbound begin from New Westminster Station routing by 8th Street, Royal, Pattullo Bridge, King George Boulevard, Scott Road to Scott Road Station, Scott, King George, 104th Avenue and then University Drive to Surrey Central before continuing on to White Rock Centre.

History

  • May 1975 - Route introduced as 621 King George FastBUS, running between Downtown Vancouver and White Rock Centre via Pattullo Bridge, King George Highway and Newton Exchange. [1]
  • October 1975 - Trips interlined with the 353 Marine[2]
  • April 1976 - Routing revised to go via Willingdon Avenue and Hastings Street with the introduction of a stop at Willingdon & Halifax and at Hastings & Commercial[3]
  • October 1976 - Service revised to take Highway 1 and Hastings[4]
  • August 1978 - Route renumbered to current number [5]
  • September 1982 - Off-peak hour service to Vancouver discontinued[6]
  • March 1985 - Service south of White Rock Centre replaced by the 354 White Rock South[7]
  • January 1986 - Off-peak trips revised to terminate at New Westminster Station and peak hour trips to Vancouver to route via New Westminster Station[8]
  • March 1986 - Northern terminus moved to New Westminster Station [9]
  • September 1988 - Short-turn trips between New Westminster Station and Guildford Mall shortened to run between New Westminster Station and Whalley Exchange only (Present-day Surrey Central Station) [10]
  • March 1990 - Terminus revised to Scott Road Station, regular service to New Westminster (except early Sunday trips) discontinued; routing revised to operate via Newton Exchange, service on King George Highway between 68th and 72nd Avenue replaced by the 324[11]
  • September 1991 - Southbound trips to White Rock Centre along King George Highway revised to go via 152nd Street, 18th Avenue, Martin, North Bluff to White Rock Centre[12]
  • June 1997 - All trips extended to White Rock South[13]
  • September 1997 - Trips leaving White Rock South revised to operate via King George Highway, 16th Avenue to 152nd Street instead of 164th Street, 10th Avenue, and Stayte/160th Street[14]
  • April 1999 - Early Sunday/holiday morning New Westminster extension trip revised to operate as part of the 330[15]
  • October 2001 - Midday and Saturday service reduced between White Rock South, White Rock Centre and Newton Exchange to every 30 minutes and route and timetable revised to reflect the cancellation of route 390 White Rock Centre/King George Station[16]
  • December 2006 - Daytime service to White Rock South discontinued and replaced by the 375; service between Newton Exchange and White Rock Centre improved to every 20 minutes from approximately 6:30AM to 8:30PM Monday to Friday and service between Newton and Surrey Central improved to every 10 minutes on Saturdays from 10:30am to 5:30pm[17]

  • December 2007 - Routing between Newton Exchange and Surrey Central Station joins the Frequent Transit Network[19]
  • April 2008 - Route joins Frequent Transit Network (FTN) with service increased to a minimum of 15 minutes from 6am to 10pm everyday (Between Newton and White Rock Centre minimum 15 minutes 6am to 9pm and between Newton and Surrey Central every 7-8 minutes Monday to Saturday)[20]
  • September 2013 - Short turns between Newton and Surrey Central removed following the introduction of the 96 B-Line
