Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority
Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority or Capital Metro, is the public transit operator for the city of Austin, Texas and the suburbs of Travis and Williamson Counties.
History
The creation of Capital Metro was approved in 1985 by the citizens of Austin with a one-cent sales tax. In 1986, the system was launched, taking over the existing City of Austin bus services from the previous operator Austin Transit Corporation.[1]
Routes
MetroBus - (electric blue) includes circulators, rail connectors, crosstown, UT shuttle, and routes serving downtown.
MetroExpress - (red) includes flyer routes, which run along major freeways from residential neighborhoods, park and rides, or rail stations. Some routes use the toll lanes along MoPac highway.
MetroRAPID - (silver) bus rapid transit (BRT) routes that serve the heaviest corridors using articulated and 40-ft buses. There are plans for expand the Rapid network in the future.
MetroRail - (red) commuter train service along 32 miles of track and 9 stations from downtown Austin to the city of Leander.
MetroAccess - (white) paratransit service using small cutaway vans.
