The Cumberland-Dauphin-Harrisburg Transit Authority, dba Capital Area Transit (or CAT), is a public transit provider to the city of Harrisburg, and surrounding counties of Cumberland and Dauphin, in the state of Pennsylvania.

History
In 1973, the Harrisburg Railways Company filed with the Public Utility Commission to abandon much of its service. At this point, the City of Harrisburg along with Dauphin and Cumberland Counties formed a public authority with the express purpose of acquiring the assets of the Harrisburg Railways Company and continuing public bus service.

The authority is comprised of seven board members; three representing Dauphin County, two representing the City of Harrisburg, and two representing Cumberland County.  The authority also retains counsel regarding legal matters.

* 2010:  CAT purchases four buses from SEPTA (Philadelphia) to use on scheduled work tripper service.  Buses were 1996 North American Bus Industries (NABI) model 416.  These buses were interim, due to issues with a scheduled delivery of Gillig buses, intended to be retired once the Gillig buses arrive.
* 2011:  CAT begins offering Wi-Fi services on designated commuter buses.
