In 1953 Albert Savoie started service on this route with the two car MV Hornby Island V at future date he built another vessel named MV Lorraine S 2 to service. Albert Savoie operated the route with small subsidiaries from British Columbia Government. [1] In 1973 the Ministry of Transportation Salt Water Ferries took over this with the 16 vehicles and 133 passengers vessel named Albert J Savoie. In 1983 the route 30 vehicle and 200 passengers vessel Kahloke operating the route in summer months until 2007 when she became the year round vessel. During the winter months between 1983 and 2007 the Tachek took over operations of the route. In 1985 this route was taken over by BC Ferries.

Future of the route

A single Island Class will be place on route some time in 2026.
