Route details

This is the first and only cable ferry in BC Ferries system. This ferry is double ender vessel that just goes straight from Buckley Bay - Denman Island West. This route crosses the Baynes Sound.

The ferry usually sails every hour from both terminals. Some times this route goes on Shuttle mode, where the vessel unloads, loads then departs without following the schedule of the route. This one of two routes that vessel can operate on shuttle mode.

History

In 1972 Deman Queen, until when she was renamed the Klitsa in 1973 serviced Buckley Bay - Denman Island West. In 1978 Kahloke was freed and moved Buckley Bay - Denman Island West. In 1983 Ministry of Transportation Salt Water Ferries knew the route was growing and moved Quinitsa to Buckley Bay - Denman Island West. In 1985 the British Columbia Government decided to merger the Ministry of Transportation Salt Water Ferries routes and fleet with BC Ferries with the route staying the same until January 22, 2016. In 2009 BC Ferries was discussing to put a new type of vessel, a cable ferry, on the route which was approved in 2014. In 2014 construction started on cable ferry which begin revenue on January 22, 2016 which was named Baynes Sound Connector and displacing the Quinitsa.
