Route 21 is a ferry runs that is under contract and receives subsidy from Province of British Columbia to [[BC Ferries]]. This is minor route in [[BC Ferries]] route network.

This is the first and only cable ferry in BC Ferries system. This ferry is double ender vessel that just goes straight from Buckley Bay - Denman Island West. This route crosses the Baynes Sound.

The ferry usually sails every hour from both terminals. Some times this route goes on Shuttle mode, where the vessel unloads, loads then departs without following the schedule of the route. This one of two routes that vessel can operate on shuttle mode.

==History== 
In 1972 [[BC Ferries K-Class|Deman Queen]], until when she was renamed the [[BC Ferries K-Class|Klitsa]], she serviced [[BC Ferries route 21 Buckley Bay - Denman Island West|Buckley Bay - Denman Island West]] until 1978. In 1978 [[BC Ferries K-Class|Kahloke]] was freed and moved [[BC Ferries route 21 Buckley Bay - Denman Island West|Buckley Bay - Denman Island West]]. In 1983 [[Ministry of Transportation Salt Water Ferries]] knew the route was growing and moved [[BC Ferries Quinitsa |Quinitsa]] to [[BC Ferries route 21 Buckley Bay - Denman Island West|Buckley Bay - Denman Island West]]. In 1985 the British Columbia Government decided to merger the [[Ministry of Transportation Salt Water Ferries]] routes and fleet with [[BC Ferries]] with the route staying the same until January 22, 2016. In 2009 [[BC Ferries]] was discussing to bring another type of vessel to the ferry fleet which was determined to be a cable ferry, on the route which was approved in 2014. In 2014 construction started on cable ferry which begin revenue on January 22, 2016 which was named [[BC Ferries Baynes Sound Connector|Baynes Sound Connector]] and displacing the [[BC Ferries Quinitsa |Quinitsa]].

==Future== 
A project to increase capacity of [[BC Ferries Baynes Sound Connector|Baynes Sound Connector]] and possibly electrification of route.
