The Alexander Dennis Enviro500EV is a low floor battery-electric double deck bus. Foothill Transit will be the launch customer, taking two Enviro500EV buses in 2019. Foothill Transit previously had a diesel-powered Enviro500 bus on trial in October 2016 that was widely praised by passengers.[1]
The Enviro500EV uses Proterra's E2 battery technology, including charging hardware and thermal management.[2] The drive axle is supplied by Allison Transmission and features an integrated motor and gearbox.[3] This new axle was launched following Allison's acquisition of AxleTech’s electric vehicle systems division.[4] AxleTech had previously developed an electric drive axle for Proterra.
