Air Canada's A320-200 fleet are Airbus A320-211s delivered from 1990 up to 2003. All planes have a capacity of 146 passengers (14 business and 132 economy). This series has a range of 4,442 km, designed for domestic/North American flight.

These A320s primarily operate domestic service west of Montreal along with service to California and Florida-based airports. They occasionally appear at east-coast airports, Newark or vacation locations.

History

In 2001, upon merger with Canadian Airlines International, the Canadian A320 fleet was transferred to Air Canada. With the start-up of Air Canada's low-cost subsidiary Air Canada Tango, most of the Canadian A320 fleet was converted to Tango service. When Tango ended in 2003, the fleet was transferred back to mainline Air Canada. 5 aircraft would subsequently be transferred to charter operations under Air Canada Jetz, with one frame returning to mainline in 2012.

With delivery of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 and Airbus A220-300, retirement of this series will commence with delivery of the new aircraft in 2019. 11 airframes are expected to be retired by the end of 2019.[1] Some of the retired fleet will be transferred to Air Canada Rouge.[2]
