ABQ RIDE 301-340
The ABQ RIDE 300-series consists of a fleet of 40 Neoplan USA AN440A CNG buses. Built in 1996, they are currently the only high-floor buses that still operate with ABQ RIDE. These buses were originally intended to be delivered to LACMTA, however, they were not accepted by LACMTA, and were thus purchased by ABQ RIDE. Specifications are fairly similar to LACMTA buses 4500-4695, including the metal American Seating seats and vandal-resistant walls. The ABQ RIDE 300-series buses are powered by Cummins L10G CNG engines and use an Allison B400R transmission.
In 2004, the 300-series received some upgrades, including new TwinVision Amber LED destination signs, as well as Digital Recorders Talking Bus annunciators. In 2009, the 300-series received some additional upgrades, including new digital Interlogix security cameras (replacing the previous videotape-based cameras, most of which were inoperative), a signal priority system, and new GFI Genfare Odyssey validating fareboxes with card readers and dispensesrs.
All 300-series buses are based at the Yale Transit Facility in southeastern Albuquerque alongside the 600-series buses. Currently, these buses are used primarily on Route 40-D Ride and Route 250-Nonstop Airport Express, as well as on some routes with lower ridership and/or wheelchair boardings.
17 of the 300-series buses were replaced by the 600-series New Flyer Industries XN40 buses in 2014. The remainder of the fleet is planned to be replaced in 2016 by 20 additional New Flyer XN40s. Four buses will be kept for the Route 40-D Ride circulator route.
