York Region Transit 1020-1038 is wheelchair accessible.

York Region Transit 1020-1038 are New Flyer D40LFR buses built and delivered in 2010.

These buses were the first D40LFRs ordered by YRT after New Flyer discontinued the D40LF model, and are also the first EPA 2010-compliant vehicles ordered. They have some of the same features as the 9xx and 10xx D40LFs, although differences include the HVAC unit being positioned in the front on the roof instead of the back in the engine area, integrated INIT automated announcements system with the HVAC, and an extra stop requested sign in front of the HVAC due to the front one being covered by the unit. Interior stickers are also of the standard white font colour, unlike YRT/Viva's recent fleet number placard introduction to all the other vehicles.

These vehicles are preferred to be stored indoors overnight in order to prevent the urea from freezing, hence why Veolia received the bulk of the order; Miller only has a limited indoor storage space. However, the units are built with an auxiliary heater that keeps the urea from freezing outdoors in below freezing temperatures.

These buses are normally found on 1 Highway 7, 2 Milliken, 3 Thornhill, 4 Major Mackenzie, 5 Clark, 7 Martin Grove, 8 Kennedy, 9 Ninth Line, 10 Woodbridge, 12 Pine Valley, 13 Islington, 14 14th Ave, 16 16th Ave, 18 Bur Oak, 20 Jane, 21 Vellore, 23 Thornhill Woods, 24 Woodbine, 25 Major Mackenzie, 26 Maple, 40 Unionville Local, 77 Highway 7, 80 Elgin Mills, 81 Inspiration, 82 Valleymede, 83/83A Trench, 85 Rutherford, 86 Newkirk-Red Maple, 87 Autumn Hill, 88 Bathurst, 90B Leslie, 91/91A/91B Bayview, 99 Yonge, 105 Dufferin, 107 Keele, 165 Weston, 300 Business Express, 301 Markham Express, 302 Unionville Express, 303 Bur Oak Express, 304 Mount Joy Express, 305 Box Grove Express, 391 Bayview Express, and school specials.

Upon entering service, these buses retired 201-202, 213, 216-219, 222-223, 2053, and 2064. The remaining 7 buses were used for service expansion.
