Whitecourt Transit
Whitecourt Transit is a public transportation system in the Town of Whitecourt, Alberta. It is operated by First Canada.
History
In a 2013 survey, 84.4 per cent of respondents thought there was a need for a public transit system. The question made it to a non-binding election ballot question, where a large number of votes were in favour. The town proposed a one hour loop through Whitecourt with service to shopping areas, health care, public service agencies, recreational and park facilities and education centres. The Transit Committee anticipated operations would be similar to the similarly sized Hinton Transit.[1][2]
In June 2014, the Town awarded First Canada the contract to operate the system. Included in the contract was the lease of one minibus to be used in service with another as a spare. On September 2, 2014, the transit service was officially launched.
