The Wabtec Corporation, also known simply as "Wabtec" is a multi-national supplier of transit-related components for bus and rail systems. Numerous companies operate as subsidiaries, covering such items as door systems, relays and sanitation systems, to name a few.

History

Wabtec, short for Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies Corporation, was formed in 1999 after by the merger of Westinghouse Air Brake Company and MotivePower Industries Corporation. The headquarters is located in Wilmerding, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Rail division

Wabtec provides products and services to virtually every major rail transit system around the world, supplying an integrated series of components for intercity and commuter cars, metro cars and light rail vehicles.

Wabtec designs and manufactures pneumatic, electronic and hydraulic brake equipment, along with mechanical/electrical couplers and third-rail current collectors for passenger rail vehicles, providing heavy-duty relays and contactors for electrical control and switching applications. Wabtec also offers sanitation systems, and produces a full range of high-performance electric and pneumatic passenger door systems, handicapped lifts and access ramps that provide maximum safety and efficiency for vehicle entry and exit. Wabtec refurbishes HVAC units with upgrades that deliver precise heating and cooling in any climate for passenger comfort. Wabtec makes a wide variety of brake shoes and pads for new vehicle and replacement applications, offering maintenance, repair, over haul and refurbishment services for locomotives, passenger cars and passenger car components and manufactured using the latest technologies.

Bus division

Wabtec is a one of the top suppliers of components and assemblies for buses. They offer a broad range of products for urban transit and commuter buses, intercity and tour coaches, paratransit vehicles, and shuttle and school buses.

The Vapor Bus International division provides complete passenger door assemblies, as well as individual components such as actuators, door controls, door panels, seals, and door accessories. Vapor’s unique CLASSTM Sensing System uses acoustic technology to enable passengers to exit the vehicle without contact with the doors.

The Ricon Corporation designs and manufactures handicapped lifts, ramps, and anti-graffiti windows.

Microphor provides sanitation systems and related equipment. Wabtec also offers Young Touchstone’s integrated engine-cooling equipment, such as a space-saving, all-in-one assembly that includes the radiator, charge-air cooler and hydraulic oil cooler in a ready-to-install package.
