Union City Transit is the public transit service for Union City, California.

History

The introduction of BART service, from 1972 (to MacArthur) to 1974 (to San Francisco/Daly City) also resulted in the introduction of local public transit bus service in southern Alameda County. Fremont and Newark introduced AC Transit bus service on 11/12/1974 and 12/16/1974, respectively, while Union City established its own agency, a service called "the Flea." Initial operations consisted of minibuses operating on fixed routes with on demand pickups/dropoffs.

By the early 1980, the Flea was already renamed to Union City Transit/UC Transit. Service has generally remained inside Union City proper, with limited route coverage into South Hayward (BART station) and Newark, both via route 5, in 2001. There are two major hubs, Union City BART station, and Union Landing Shopping Center. Service is operated by MV Transportation.

On May 24, 2021, the old “Flea” name was resurrected for a 22 month long microtransit pilot project using 2 Ford Transit Vans. [1]

Additional public transit bus service in Union City, CA, is provided by AC Transit, Dumbarton Express, and Marguerite Shuttle.
