TriMet 700-786 were 1981 model Crown Ikarus 286 buses built in 1981, but completed in 1982. Their wheelchair lifts were removed in 1989. The last units retired from service in March 1999.

Details

  • 1 unit was repowered with a Detroit Diesel 6L71TA engine.
  • 2 units were bought by a movie vehicle company and were stored at a triangle lot at NW Thurman & NW 17th. They were modified circa 2001 to resemble TriMet's MAX Light Rail Bombardier Type 1 cars and were featured in the 2003 movie "The Hunted."[1][2] They were stored underneath the I-5 freeway after the movie shoot and were eventually scrapped.[3]
  • An unknown unit (785?) was bought by an unknown private owner circa 1999. It was sold to a 2nd private owner in Washington, who converted it into a rally racing bus for the Gambler 500 in July 2017. Its original engine was replaced.[4][5][6]
