Tri-Delta Transit

Tri-Delta Transit is the local public transit provider for the eastern area of Contra Costa County, California. Service is provided to the communities of Bay Point, Pittsburg, Antioch, Oakley, Brentwood, Discovery Bay, Byron, and Shore Acres.

History

Tri-Delta Transit began operations in 1977.

  • Ex-COTA 2006, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2022 & 2030-2032; bought in October 2004.
  • Retired in 2008-2009.
  • Some units were bought by Transit Sales International/Complete Coach Works.[3][4]
    • 1 unit was sold to a private owner for an RV conversion. It was listed for sale as an incomplete conversion project in 2015.[5][6]

Detroit Diesel Series 50 EGR Allison B400R
  • 0182 was built in 2000.
  • Retired in November 2016.
  • 0194 was kept by Tri Delta Transit's PR department.
  • All other units were auctioned off on 3/16/2017.[7] They were bought by Zacher's Auto Salvage in Harbor City, CA for resale.
    • 3 units were sold off and driven to the Eastern U.S.[8]
    • Around 10 units were sold to Tourcoach. T195-T204 are the known units.[9][10] A couple of units were returned to Zacher's after a loss of contracts in late 2017.
    • 4 units (including 0187) were sold to Bauer's in San Francisco, CA for employee shuttle usage at the Chevron Plant in Richmond, CA on 1/4/2018.[11] 1 unit broke down during the drive to the Bay Area and returned to Zacher's.
    • 0182 was sold to Essential Transportation in Los Angeles, CA. It was spotted operating in Fullerton, CA on 1/11/2018.[12] In spring 2018, it was traded back to Zacher's in exchange for Ex-SamTrans 328 due to problems with its diesel particulate trap.

1001-1007 1984 Gillig Phantom 35'

Detroit Diesel 6V92TA Allison HT-747 1006 became the "Classroom on Wheels" bus.[13] It was auctioned off (as 8401) on 9/16/2013 and was bought by Zacher's Auto Salvage in Harbor City, CA. It then was sold to a private owner in southern Los Angeles, CA in 2014.[14]

  • 97xx, 9797, 9796 & 97xx to Butte Regional Transit 9701-9704. 9795's & 9798's new fleet numbers at Butte Regional Transit are currently unknown.

  • Retired in 2013; auctioned off on 9/16/2013.
  • All units were bought by Zacher's Auto Salvage in Harbor City, CA.
    • 9893, 9894, 9896-9899 were sold to Tourcoach and became T175-T180.
    • 9895 had a bad engine and was kept for 3 years, but was eventually parted out and scrapped.[16][17]
9996-9997 1999 Gillig Low Floor 29'

  • 9996 was an Ex-Gillig demo; first Gillig Low Floor 29' ever built.
  • 9997 was a demo for Tri-Delta Transit and was later put into service.
  • Retired in 2013; auctioned off on 9/16/2013.
  • Both units were bought by Zacher's Auto Salvage in Harbor City, CA. They remain there intact as of 2017.[18][17]
