Torrance Transit is a transit agency serving mainly the South Bay region of Los Angeles County.

  • Battery electric powered
    • It had a range of 75 miles on a charge of 8 to 10 hours.
  • It was rolled out at Hughes Aircraft Co. in Torrance, CA, who helped develop the bus.[2][3]
  • ZEST stood for Zero Emissions Surface Transit.

  • Its post-Torrance Transit disposition remained unknown. However, it was listed on Craigslist in a non-operational condition in Bakersfield, CA on 9/8/2019.[4]

  • Most units retired in the early 2000's.
    • 439 & 440 were bought by Frank's All City Lines. 439 was eventually scrapped. 440 was sold off in 2004.[8]
  • 433 was the last bus to retire with its original 6V92TA engine intact. It retired on 5/27/2010 and was auctioned off as a non-runner circa 2012.[9].
  • 437 retired in May 2010 and was bought & preserved by multiple private owners for a couple of years. However, it was scrapped around late 2013 due to a failing differential.

    • 463 was bought by Cinema Bus Rentals.[13]
  • 454 retired circa 2015?; auctioned off as a non-runner on 7/1/2017.[14]
  • 461 retired by 2016; auctioned off on 7/1/2017.[15]
  • 462 was the last active unit and retired in June 2016; auctioned off as a non-runner on 7/1/2017.[16]
