With ridership expected to reach 399 million by 1982, the TTC approved the purchase of 160 buses from General Motors at a cost of $21.4 million in early 1981. These buses were delivered in the "CLRV" livery used from the 1980s into the 1990s and were delivered with rollsigns. Like the previous batch of New Looks, the interior colour scheme was cream and brown. Passenger seats were fibreglass with padded inserts.
8571 was the prototype unit for the Heavy Rebuild Program in 1997, and received an 18-year rebuild and was renumbered 2000. Two other buses were rebuilt and renumbered into the 2000-2110 series. Most of the rest of this series was rebuilt and renumbered into the 2700-2765, 2767-2858 series between 1999 and 2001. 8584 was the only unit in this series to not be part of the Heavy Rebuild Program.
