Toronto Transit Commission 8010-8117, 8140-8158, 8160-8204, 8270-8314, 8320-8369, 8520-8729 & 8740-8985 were General Motors T6H-5307N built and delivered between 1975 and 1983. The various batches have been consolidated on one page as many of these buses went through the Bus Heavy Rebuild Program between 1995 and 2004. The overhaul was necessary as the TTC faced a lack of new buses and increasing ridership in the 1990's. The TTC settled on rebuilding buses at the 6-year and 12-year mark in 1995. Two years later, the TTC expanded the rebuild program to include buses that had reached the end of their 18-year life. Some of these buses were past that mark and taken out of retirement.

The buses from these various batches were renumbered into the 2000 series to designate their status of being rebuilt at the 18-year mark. Renumbering also cleared out the 8000-series for future buses, in this case the 8000 series Orion VII and future orders a number of years later.

8010-8117

The TTC placed an order for 108 buses with General Motors in 1974. The buses were built at GM's GMDD London plant and delivered in 1975.

These buses were delivered in the maroon and cream livery and had a light green interior with seats trimmed in black and pink. Buses were given the "CLRV" livery when they were overhauled in the 1980s. They were also delivered with rollsigns, though one unit (8110) received an electronic flip-dot sign from Luminator in the early 1990s.

Approximately one-third of this series was retired by the early 1990s. Faced with a bus shortage in part due to the withdrawal of the trolleybuses and issues with new buses, a number of buses still remained in service through the 1990s. Only one bus was formally put through the Heavy Rebuild Program. Bus 8073 was rebuilt and renumbered 2151 in 1999. Two buses, which did not formally go through the Heavy Rebuild Program, remained in service into the new millennium. Dedicated staff at Arrow and Malvern allowed for 8051 and 8058 to remain in service into 2002 and 2004, respectively. 8051 was the last bus in the fleet sporting the old red/black/grey "CLRV" livery, and 8058 was the last bus in the fleet equipped with rollsigns.

After retirement, 8058 was donated to the Halton County Radial Railway where it sat on display. The unit was re-acquired by TTC in late 2015 and brought to Hillcrest Shops for possible restoration. Due to body deterioration and overall poor condition, there was some doubt about its ultimate fate if it would be restored or serve as a parts unit (with old interior parts and seats used in the restoration of either 2252 or 2444), and it lingered around Hillcrest in a stripped-down state. But after restoration of 2252, shop forces turned their attention to the restoration of 8058. It is believed that 8058 will be restored into its original as-delivered maroon and cream livery.

As well as being an example of one of the TTC's iconic fleet of over two thousand GM New Look buses operated between 1960 and 2012, 8058 has the distinction of being the oldest bus on the property (built in 1975), and a surviving example of one of TTC's numerous New Look orders built locally at the now-closed GMDD London plant, before transit bus production ended and moved to Quebec in 1979.

The TTC tendered for the supply of 21 buses in 1976. The price they were quoted was $210,000 higher than expected. The TTC ultimately made the decision to purchase just 19 buses of $69,653 per bus.[1] Most of these buses remained in service into the 1990s. Only on bus was put through the Heavy Rebuild Program. Bus 8157 was rebuilt an renumbered 2150 in 1999.

These buses were delivered in the maroon and cream livery and had a light green interior with seats trimmed in black and pink. These buses were built and delivered in 1977. The TTC purchased 59 buses that year with the order split between General Motors (GM) and Flyer Industries. GM supplied 45 New Look buses and Flyer supplied 14 D800B buses. Nine buses were rebuilt and renumbered into the 2000 & 2150-series between 1997 and 2000. They were renumbered as per the order of rebuilding.

These buses were delivered in the maroon and cream livery and had a light green interior with seats trimmed in black and pink. Buses were given the "CLRV" livery when they were overhauled in the 1980s. The buses used rollsigns, however a few received electronic signs from Luminator in the early 1990s

These buses were built and delivered in 1979. Unlike previous orders, this and future orders would be built at the new GMDD St-Eustache, Quebec plant. Many of these buses were rebuilt into the 2000-2110 series. All units received their body and mechanical rebuilds between 1997 and 2000 at the same time and were renumbered as per the order of rebuilding.

These buses were delivered in the maroon and cream livery, but with a new cream and brown interior. The TTC elected to test fibreglass seats with this order and specified the American Seating Model 6463. The buses used rollsigns, but were retrofitted with electronic signs from Luminator in the early 1990s

These buses were delivered in the maroon and cream livery with a cream and brown interior. The TTC elected to test stainless steel seats with this order and specified the American Seating Innovator 850. The buses originally used rollsigns, but were retrofitted with electronic signs from Luminator in the early 1990s.

These buses were built and delivered in 1981. The 42 General Motors New Look buses were ordered in the fall of 1980 alongside 107 D901 buses from Flyer Industries. The two orders were valued at $17.9-million.[2] Many of these buses received a body and mechanical rebuild at the 18-year mark between 1997 and 2000. The majority were renumbered into the 2000-2110 series in the order they were rebuilt. Two were renumbered in the 2700-series.

These buses were the first New Looks to be delivered in the livery adapted from the newly delivered CLRVs. The interior colour scheme remained cream and brown, and the TTC specified fibreglass seats with padded inserts for this batch. The buses were delivered with rollsigns, but were retrofitted with electronic flip-dot signs from Luminator as part of a fleet-wide retrofit in the early 1990s.

These buses were built in late 1981 to early 1982. With ridership expected to reach 399 million by 1982, the TTC approved the purchase of 160 buses from General Motors at a cost of $21.4-million in early 1981.[3] At near 18 years old, 8571 was the first to be rebuilt in 1997 and was renumbered 2000. Two other buses were rebuilt and renumbered in the 2000-2110 series. The remainder of this series was rebuilt and renumbered in the 2700-2765, 2767-2858 from 1999 and 2001.

These buses were delivered in the "CLRV" livery used from the 1980s into the 1990s and were delivered with rollsigns. Like the previous batch of New Looks, the interior colour scheme was cream and brown. Passenger seats were fibreglass with padded inserts. As part of a fleet-wide retrofit, the buses had their rollsigns replaced with Luminator flip-dot signs in the early 1990s.

These buses were built and delivered from 1982 to 1983. They were the last New Looks ordered by the TTC as well as their largest order placed with General Motors. The contract, announced in July 1982, was valued at $35,116,865.[4] The buses received their 12-year rebuild between 1995 and 1998. By the end of 2004, all buses had completed their 18-year rebuild and were renumbered consecutively 2240-2485 (8821 was involved in an accident prior to being rebuilt and retired.)

These buses were delivered in the "CLRV" livery used from the 1980s into the 1990s and were delivered with rollsigns. Like the previous batch of New Looks, the interior colour scheme was cream and brown. As part of a fleet-wide retrofit, the buses had their rollsigns replaced with Luminator flip-dot signs in the early 1990s.

As part of their 12-year rebuild, the buses received a number of other features. The driver's area was enlarged, which took up one passenger seat, and a blacked-out effect acrylic divider was installed to accommodate the new driver's seat. The steering wheel was also replaced with a more modern one and power steering was added to assist drivers in turning. Passenger seats had their padded brown vinyl inserts replaced with un-padded red fabric ones. After receiving body work, the buses were given a fresh coat of paint giving the buses the TTC's current livery.
