South County Area Transit or SCAT was the transit operator of South San Luis Obispo County, California, which included the cities of Shell Beach, Pismo Beach, Grover Beach, Oceano and Arroyo Grande.

History

SCAT was once part of San Luis Obispo Transit, which at the time was operated by the City & County of San Luis Obispo all as one agency. When the city & county split operations in the mid-1980's, the southern county ran South County Area Transit (SCAT) as a separate agency. In 1988 or 1989, SCAT entered a contractual relationship with Central Coast Area Transit (CCAT) to manage their operations. The SCAT name was dropped circa 2003 upon the re-branding of CCAT to San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority (RTA).
