Created in 2015, the South Central Transit Authority (of PA) exists to provide and or manage safe, efficient, convenient and dependable transportation for the citizens of Berks County and Lancaster County. It has two operating subsidiaries; the Berks Area Regional Transportation Authority (BARTA) of Reading, and the Red Rose Transit Authority (RRTA) of Lancaster, PA.

Collectively, the SCTA authority operates 99 conventional transit buses, as well as 124 para-transit vehicles.

Timeline of important events

  • 2014: SCTA begins operation as a dual-county public transportation agency for the counties of Lancaster and Berks in Pennsylvania (December 1).
