Shuswap Regional Transit System is the transit system serving Salmon Arm and surrounding communities Enderby, Eagle Bay, and Sorrento in British Columbia. Local funding and governance is provided by the City of Salmon Arm, the Adams Lake Indian Band, and the Columbia Shuswap Regional District. Provincial share of funding, planning and administrative support and vehicle fleet is provided by BC Transit. Operations are contracted to Transdev Canada.[1]

History

  • 15 October 1991 Service began as two separate systems operating under the BC Transit Paratransit systems program, Salmon Arm Paratransit System, providing local fixed route service in Salmon Arm, and Columbia-Shuswap Paratransit System providing limited rural services to various unincorporated communitites in the regional district. Original contractor for both systems was K.I.A Transit Ltd. [2]
  • Circa 2003 Main system renamed Salmon Arm Transit System as many of the small systems in BC were permitted to drop Paratransit from their names, as well as offer HandyDART branded door to door service under their operating agreements.
  • By 2008 Salmon Arm and Columbia-Shuswap systems merged under the name Shuswap Regional Transit system.[3]
