History
Richmond Hill Transit was established in 1960 in order to provide public transit service in Richmond Hill. Richmond Hill Transit was initially operated by Trailways of Canada Limited as the private contractor the town paid to run the system. The town took over greater control of the system in 1976, with Travelways remaining the contractor. Operations were later contracted to Laidlaw Transit in the 1980's, followed by Pacific Western Transportation in the mid to late 1990's.
On January 1, 2001, Richmond Hill Transit was merged with Markham Transit, Newmarket Transit and Vaughan Transit to form one regional public transit company called York Region Transit.
