Regina Transit
Regina Transit provides public transportation in the city of Regina, Saskatchewan.
The employees are represented by Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 588.
History
Was created from the Regina Municipal Railway in 1950.
In early 2014, Regina Transit celebrated being 100% low-floor. All High-floor buses were retired around this time.
In early 2010, an audit by the Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) lead to a large number of buses being taken out of service after structural issues were found.[1] Thirteen buses from the 1990 to 1992 range were taken out of service. It was noted that Regina Transit had planned to replace the buses from this age group with second hand buses they have been acquiring or plan to acquire in the near future as the buses they will replace were found to be not worth the cost of refurbishing. However the audit by the SGI has caused Regina Transit to search for and acquire more second hand buses ahead of schedule. On January 18, council approved the purchase of three new vehicles and several second hand buses.[2]
By January 22, 2010 a further three buses were taken out of service following an SGI audit.[3] By that week, 36 buses were audited and 16 were taken out of service after failing inspection.[4] Six buses were reported to be heading back into service by the next month. By the end of January, Regina Transit had acquired some used buses from Lethbridge, Alberta and Charlotte, North Carolina.
