Route 162 was a bus route operated by OC Transpo in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

The routing of Route 162

Route 162 was a regular route that served Kanata. It primarily connected Kanata South with Kanata North for convenient connections to malls and local businesses.

History

June 28th, 1992

  • Will provide early morning service, replacing a portion of Route 862.

June 27th, 1993

  • Sunday service will be removed from Pickform to speed up service. Weekday and Saturday service will continue to serve Pickford.

April 7th, 1996

  • Will have reduced early morning service.

September 3rd, 1996

  • Will be rerouted in Katimavik and extended to Kanata Lakes replacing Route 163 and to Beaverbrook replacing Route 160.
  • Early morning service will travel from Hazeldean Mall, via Robertson, Irwin, Pickford and Kakulu to the Town Centre.

April 25th, 1999

  • Some early morning trips have been replaced by Routes 97 and 118.

August 29th, 1999

  • Will use a temporary roadway to accommodate the construction at Kanata Centrum.
  • Will travel via Rolland Michener, Earl Grey, to regular Route.

April 23rd, 2000

  • Will have an added trip on Saturday at 11:38 PM.
  • The last trip on Sunday will be extended to finish at Hazeldean Mall.

September 3rd, 2000

  • Service will be revised due to the closure of Rolland Michener and Earl Grey Drives from Terry Fox Drive.
  • Buses will serve Kanata Centrum via Campeau and Earl Grey Loop, to regular route.
  • Is unchanged and will still serve Penfield northbound as requested by residents.

September 2nd, 2001

  • Route is extended to serve Richardson, Stikine and Goldridge.

September 1st, 2002

  • Will be revised to replace Route 161 in the Katimavik community.
  • The route will operate via Eagleson, Shatner, Pickford, Kakulu, Castlefrank, and McCurdy.
  • The frequency will be increased in the mid-day to every 30 minutes.
  • Service north of Kanata Town Centre and south of Hazeldean Mall is unchanged.

December 23rd, 2002

  • Will be removed from their temporary routing on the northern portion of Goldridge between Stikine and Kanata Avenue (Castlefrank). Buses will instead travel on the southern and western parts of Goldridge as shown on our timetables and system map as "future'.

January 4th, 2004

  • Revised to travel along Castlefrank between Katimavik and Kanata Centrum for a faster trip between the north and south sections of the community.
  • Route will no longer operate on Terry Fox Drive between Kanata Centrum and Katimavik, or on Katimavik between Terry Fox Drive and Castlefrank.

September 4th, 2004

  • Route is cancelled due to major budget cuts in the city’s operating budget.
  • Route is replaced with revised Route 161 south of Highway 417, and with revised Route 160 and new Route 165 north of the highway.
  • New Terry Fox Station and Park & Ride will become the transfer hub for local and Transitway service.
