Hurdman Station is one of the busier stations, as it is the main hub of the transitway network. Hurdman is where the central transitway from the west goes off in two directions: east toward Orléans and southeast towards Ottawa South. The station is located southeast of Hurdman Bridge where the Queensway crosses the Rideau River. It is also located near the intersection of Industrial Avenue and Riverside Drive/Vanier Parkway.

This area was historically a major rail junction for all the passenger trains going to Downtown Ottawa, which ironically followed a similar routing as the Transitway takes to go downtown, but when the NCC evicted the railroads from Downtown in the 1960s, the railroads were forced to move to the current Train Station on Tremblay Road. This area then became vacant as the NCC was reserving the land for the eastern extension of Carling Avenue which would of continued on as the current Industrial Avenue, which then continues as Innes Road. This is why the railway bridge over the road leading from the Transitway to Industrial Avenue is unnecessarily wide. The eastern extension of Carling was however shut down due to community opposition in the Glebe, where Carling Avenue would of gone through. If this eastern extension of Carling Avenue was built, there is a good chance that Hurdman Station wouldn't of been built, and if it was built, it would be in a different location. This extension also would of made the automobile a more predominant transportation figure in Ottawa as it would be a viable alternative to the Queensway, so this could of affected the transit system overall. However, shortly after in the 1970s, OC Transpo, the newly founded Regional Transit System, built a Bus Terminal here on the vacant land. This eventually became the present Hurdman Station.

The gated community located southeast of the station was developed due to it's proximity to Hurdman Station, as it considered a "Transit Oriented Gated Community".

Confederation Line LRT

A new temporary station was built in 2015 immediately to the east and south of the bus layup area to facilitate the construction of the new Confederation LRT station.

The new station will have the LRT platforms elevated with a large public plaza at surface level. Construction on the new station began in Summer 2015 and is expected to be completed by Winter 2017.[1]
