Ontario Northland 1500-1521

Ontario Northland 1500-1521 are GMDD FP7A locomotives built from 1951-1953. They were used in both freight and passenger service, and were equipped with steam generators.

A total of 9 units were sold to GO Transit in 1973 and 1976; they were converted to Auxiliary Power-Control Units (APCU) to work on commuter consists with locomotives that were not equipped with HEP generators, and to serve as a control cab on the opposite end for push-pull operations.

Four units were renumbered to 1984-1987 in 1980 and mated to ONR's four TEE trainsets to replace the problematic Werkspoor locomotives they were delivered with. Their rear end carbodies were modified to match the TEE sets, and they were equipped with TEE-style couplers on the rear.

A further three units were rebuilt with Caterpillar engines in the mid-1990s, and were reclassified as FP7Cat units. They were renumbered 2000-2002 and lasted in service until 2004.
