The Nova Bus LFX is a collection of features geared towards bus rapid transit (BRT) applications. They are available on the 60-foot LFS Artic and 40-foot rigid LFS. The LFX was launched at the 2008 APTA Expo. York Region Transit's Viva was the launch customer for the LFX in late 2010.
New aesthetic elements introduced on the demo LFX included flush mounted windows, aerodynamic roof fairings, streamlined mirrors, low profile colour-matched bumpers, recessed fog lights, and colour-matched wheel covers. Inside, tables with their own lights are available at the facing seats near the rear. An element running along the centre of the ceiling has a perforated face and indirect lighting. These two interior elements were introduced with Viva's buses to compliment their existing fleet.
Various aspects of LFX styling package have been added to buses purchased for conventional transit service. For example the New York MTA and Halifax Metro Transit have specified the roof fairings used on the LFX. Flush mounted windows have been made an option for all other Nova models as well. On the other hand, Viva has not specified low profile bumpers or streamlined mirrors on their LFX, blurring furthermore the line between the LFX model and the standard LFS Artic. In the instance of Viva's 2013 buses, they are branded as the LFS Artic even though their appearance is the same as their 2010 buses.
A standard 40-foot LFS may also be appointed with LFX features, but remained branded "LFS". An order of 40 foot buses with LFX features for the WEGO Visitor Transportation System of Niagara Falls were the first to be branded "LFX".
