The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (NORTA) is the public transit provider in New Orleans, Louisiana. The system is run under contract to Veolia Transportation.

History

The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority took over public transit operations from the private company New Orleans Public Service Incorporated (NOPSI) in 1983.

Veolia Transportation began operating NORTA in October 2008. On July 1, 2009 the NORTA Board of Commissioners approved a contract with Veolia to expand it's duties to include management of some aspects of the system. This new contract went into effect on September 1, 2009 and is for five years with a five-year option.[1] Later, Transdev began operating NORTA before ending the contract on October 1, 2020.[2]
