The New Flyer Industries XE35 is battery-electric transit buses from New Flyer's Xcelsior line. On a full charge, the bus has a range of up to 220 miles.[1] The XE35 can be charged enroute with an OppCharge-compliant rapid charger or for extended down periods with a Combined Charging System plug-in charger. Both systems are supplied by Siemens.[2]
History
New Flyer had developed the XE35 by February 2018 and showcased it at their Vehicle Innovation Center in Anniston, Alabama. On a full charge, the bus had a range of up to 314 kilometres (195 miles).[3] The New Flyer XE35 began its demonstration rounds with DASH in March 2018. DASH had previously trialed the XE40 in February.
A new generation of electric Xcelsior buses was launched in early 2021. With higher capacity batteries and improved packaging, the XE35 CHARGE NG has a range of up to 179 miles with 350 kilowatt hour battery or 220 miles with a 440 kilowatt hour battery. The CHARGE NG also uses Siemens ELFA 3 traction system.[1] By 2023, New Flyer had revised their battery capacity and range estimates. With a 345 kilowatt hour battery, the XE35 CHARGE NG has a range of 182 miles. With a 435 kilowatt hour battery, it has a range of 224 miles.
