The Motor Coach Industries D4500CL was introduced in 2005 alongside the D4500CT and D4505 as part of a update to the D-Series coach. The suffix "CL" in the coach name stands for "classic" because while the other coach models received new exterior styling, the D4500CL retained the same front and rear facia panels as the previous D4500 commuter coach.
Like most transit buses, MCI offered several options to fit agency preferences including "frameless" bonded passenger windows and fluted stainless steel sides.
The D4500CL was short lived. By the beginning of 2008, MCI no longer listed the D4500CL for sale.
