Monroe Transit System is the public transit provider for Monroe, Louisiana. It is the oldest operating publicly owned transit agency in the USA.
History

Monroe Transit System was founded as the Monroe Municipal Street Railway and began operations using streetcars on June 11th, 1906. The streetcar system was gradually converted into a bus-only operation, with the last streetcar operating on August 21st, 1938.
