General

Route 5 operates between Long Branch GO Station and Cardiff Avenue and Lorimar Drive. It also serves Dixie Mall Bus Terminal and Dixie Transitway Station.

The route primarily serves Lakeshore Road, Ogden Avenue and Dixie Road, providing north-south service across the City of Mississauga. It provides service to the Lakeview, Applewood, and Rathwood neighborhoods of Mississauga.

Timeline

September 6, 2005 - Route 5A is renumbered to route 5. Buses being serving the Cardiff/Lorimar on street loop at all times of the day, rather than looping at Derry Road outside of weekday rush hours.

September 4, 2007 - Saturday and Sunday frequency increased. Route interlined with route 23 on Saturdays and Sundays.

January 26, 2009 - Weekday evening frequency after 10:00pm reduced to 27 minutes from 20 minutes.

January 25, 2010 - Route designated as accessible, with low floor buses used at all times.

May 16, 2011 - Saturday frequency between 7:00am and 9:00pm is increased to 23 minutes from 26 minutes.

March 24, 2014 - Route 5B is eliminated, with service on the northern loop being replaced by the new route 55. No changes to route 5 frequency in the core section of the route.

November 17, 2014 - Route begins serving Dixie Transitway Station via on street stops on Dixie Road.

April 25, 2022 - Sunday service is revised to match the current routing on weekdays and Saturdays. The Sunday short turn service at Derry Road is removed with service at all times operating to Lorimar Drive/Cardiff Boulevard.

October 3, 2024 - Due to the intersection reconfiguration of South Service Road, southbound buses will detour via south on Dixie Road to Lakeshore Road and will not serve Ogden Road. A temporary Ogden Shuttle service will operate from Long Branch GO Station and loop clockwise via Lakeshore Road, Ogden Road, and South Service Road to serve the Dixie Outlet Mall. Northbound buses continue to operate on Ogden Road.
