Route 42 Derry is a bus route operated by MiWay in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
Route Details
General
The route provides service on the Derry Road corridor, providing east-west service across the city of Mississauga. It provides service to the Meadowvale, Meadowvale Village and Malton neighborhoods of Mississauga, along with the large employment and commercial area in the north end of the city.
Route 42 operates between Meadowvale Town Centre Bus Terminal and MiWay Westwood Square Bus Terminal.

Timeline
- September 6, 1988 - Route 42 'Derry West' is introduced, providing service between Meadowvale Town Centre and Cardiff Road and Lorimar Drive. Service operates during weekday peak periods only with 30 minute frequency.
- September 5, 1989 - Saturday service now operates between Meadowvale Town Centre and Woodbine Centre.
- May 13, 1991 - Weekday evening service after 8:00pm is eliminated.
- October 11, 1993 - Saturday frequency reduced to 60 minutes.
- October 12, 1999 - Route modified to no longer serve Old Derry Road through Meadowvale Village, remaining on Derry Road. Service to this area is replaced by the new route 61.
- May 23, 2000 - Route modified to serve Old Derry Road through Meadowvale Village in both directions, which was previously served by route 61. Weekday rush hour frequency increased to 20 minutes; weekday midday and evening frequency increased to 30 minutes. Saturday frequency increased to 45 minutes.
- May 22, 2001 - Sunday service introduced with 45 minute frequency. Route modified to serve Financial Drive 7 days a week.
- October 20, 2003 - Route modified east of Dixie Road to no longer serve the industrial area north of Derry Road on weekdays. Service to this area is replaced by route 15, and route 42 now travels along Derry Road and Goreway Drive to and from Westwood Square.
- August 4, 2008 - Sunday routing revised to serve Financial Drive, matching Monday to Saturday routing.
- January 25, 2010 - Route designated as accessible, with low floor buses used at all times.
- January 24, 2011 - Saturday frequency increased to 35 minutes from 48 minutes.
- March 25, 2013 - Sunday frequency reduced to 45 minutes from 40 minutes. Route begins interlining with route 22 on Sundays. Previously, Sunday service was interlined with route 11.
- December 9, 2013 - Weekday rush hour frequency increased to 13 minutes; weekday midday frequency increased to 24 minutes.
- April 27, 2015 - Weekday rush hour frequency increased to 10 minutes from 13 minutes; weekday midday frequency increased to 20 minutes from 24 minutes. As part of these changes, route 15 is modified to only travel between Westwood Square and Dixie Road.
- May 1, 2017 - Weekday late evening frequency increased to 27 minutes from 35 minutes; Saturday frequency increased to 27 minutes from 36 minutes; Sunday frequency increased to 36 minutes from 45 minutes (continued interlining with route 22.
- April 30, 2018 - Weekday rush hour frequency reduced to 12 minutes from 10 minutes.
- April 29, 2019 - Route revised to no longer serve Old Derry Road or Meadowvale Boulevard, remaining on Derry Road. Service to these areas is replaced by route 57.
- January 6, 2020 - Weekday rush hour frequency reduced to 14 minutes from 12 minutes.
- May 10, 2021 - Route 42A is introduced to provide more service along the busiest section of Derry Road due to increasing ridership demand. The branch operates between Westwood Square and Mavis Road on weekdays only.
- January 2, 2023 - Branch 42A is discontinued and replaced with the extended route 18 McLaughlin-Derry.
