On February 10, 2021, Mississauga City Council approved the purchase of 5 60' hybrid electric buses from New Flyer for a total cost of $6,410,866. Due to the small order size, it was decided to procure these buses by utilizing a single-source contract extension of the previous order of articulated buses in 2020. New Flyer also offered a series of pricing discounts for all orders placed in Q1 2021, which resulted in the total price of each bus being approximately $55,833 (4.3%) lower than the previous 2020 order. New Flyer offered a base discount of $13,000 per bus, provided the updated EPA2021 Cummins engine at no charge ($10,881), and waived all inflation related price adjustments ($31,952).[1]
Deliveries of this batch began in September 2021, and the buses began entering service on November 26, 2021. Upon entering service, they replaced the remaining 2008 New Flyer D60LFR (0851-0885) buses which had retired earlier in 2021.
