Metropolitan Transportation Authority JFK & Far Rockaway Depots
JFK Depot (Depot Code: JK) is one of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's 30 depots. It provides the buses for most of southern Queens' routes. The depot was built in 1951-1952 for Green Bus Lines as their primary depot. It was turned over to the MTA with the acquisition of Green Bus Lines on January 9th, 2006.
Far Rockaway Depot (Depot Code: FR) is a smaller satellite facility for JFK Depot built by Green Bus Lines. It was inherited on January 9th, 2006 as well. The depot used to have a dedicated fleet of buses, but now pools its local buses with JFK Depot. The depot was closed briefly from October 2012 to February 2013 owing to damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, leading to the creation of a small "replacement" depot at JFK Airport. Both JFK and Far Rockaway Depots are operated by MTA Bus Company
