Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority 1611-1656 were 1982 Neoplan USA AN460A buses. They were the first AN460's built. The buses' bodies were assembled in Stuttgart, Germany. The assembly was completed in Honey Brook, PA. The buses were then driven to Atlanta.[1][2][3] Delivered in 1984?[4] All buses except for 1 unit were rehabbed and received new Detroit Diesel 8V92TA/Allison HT-740 engines & transmissions. They retired in 1994[5] due to articulation joint issues becoming apparent on freeway runs.[6] All units operated out of the Laredo and Brady garages.

Details

  • 6 units were bought by Capital City Coach in Atlanta, GA and were used for local shuttling services.[7]
  • 3 known units were bought by Rutgers University. Known new fleet numbers included 214, 222 & 234.
  • The VIN plant code remains unknown, but it was is either S (Stuttgart) or H (Honey Brook) instead of L (for Lamar).
