Overview

The Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority or MVRTA was founded in 1974 as one of 15 Regional Transit Authorities (RTAs) in the state of Massachusetts. These RTAs were established in 1974 with the passage of legislation by the state.

The MVRTA is the fixed route and demand response public transit provider for the communities of Haverhill, Lawrence, Andover, North Andover, Methuen, Merrimac, Amesbury, Newburyport, Boxford, Groveland, Salisbury, Georgetown and West Newbury.

MVRTA operations are contracted to MVATC and STS.

  • 9901, 9906, 9907, 9909, 9910 & 9912 were retired and scrapped in 2012.
  • 9902, 9904 & 9911 were rehabbed and converted into Ambu-buses in 2012. They retired in early 2019.
    • 9911 was towed to scrap on 10/9/2019.
  • 9908 retired in December 2015 due to axle damage.
  • 9903 retired in March 2016.
