Introduced in the late 1980s, The Luminator Super Matrix:MAX was designed as an alternative to the undersized Matrix:MAX. The Super Matrix:MAX introduced a two piece design, with a route number going on one smaller 14x28 module, and destination/ public relations text going on the original 7x75 module. Like most electronic sign systems of this era, it featured a fluorescent light ballast positioned under the sign. The Super Matrix:MAX saw production until 1998, at which point it was completely replaced by the Luminator MAX3000.
