History
In mid-July 2004, the LA Metro board exercised an option of additional 40-foot NABI CNG buses for under $30 million, with entry of service by June 30, 2005.[1] They removed some of the 1988-1989 TMC RTS-06 buses alongside the remaining 1992 Flxible Metro buses as part of an effort for 381 replacement buses between the 2003-2007 fiscal years.
All units were originally delivered with a revised version of the "Metro Local" paint scheme, with a completely orange front and less silver paint on the sides when compared to other buses; units 7558-7561 received the base variant of the Metro Local livery in 2010-2011. 18 units from this series were repainted in the Metro Rapid livery while the rest received a later gray variant of the Metro Local livery in 2012-2013. The buses were found at LACMTA divisions 2, 7, 9, 15 & 18.
At the end of their service lives, they were prioritized for retirement due to them having a smaller brake pedal compared to the earlier 2000-2002 NABI 40-LFW CNG units. They were completely replaced by the 2018-2020 ENC Axess order while the repowered 2000-2001 New Flyer and NABI buses remained until spring 2020.
