Kingston Transit 2107E-2108E
Kingston Transit 2107E-2108E are New Flyer XE40 battery-electric buses built and delivered in 2020-2021. They are the first battery-electric buses in Kingston Transit's fleet. A $47 million joint investment in active transportation in Kingston by the municipal, provincial, and federal governments was announced on August 10, 2020 [1]. These investments allowed the procurement of two electric buses and six diesel buses. Both electric buses entered service on July 29, 2021.
Initially delivered in the blue Kingston Express paint scheme, prior to entering service they were wrapped with a modified green Kingston Express/Electric bus scheme. The large 'X' over the rear windows incorporate the text 'Electric Bus', while the bottom element of the 'X' stretching to the front of the bus is styled as an electric plug and cable.
These buses are equipped with white Luminator SMT signs and, to save weight, Alcoa aluminum wheel rims. They have an additional set of vertical turn signals adjacent to the rear grill, and are fitted with Sportworks Apex 2 bike racks with fat-tire trays. They are not fitted with roof charging rails, and feature a fully-electric cabin heating system instead of a diesel-fueled heater. On a full charge, these buses have a range of approximately 300 km.
Inside, for further weight savings, these buses are equipped with Insight Prime and BC55 seating with plastic seat inserts. The near-side wheelchair position features a QUANTUM automatic wheelchair securement system. These buses have a wider rear door and reduced seating on the high-floor section (to better accommodate standing passengers), giving them a seated capacity of 31. Unlike other orders since 2019, these buses entered service with BEA Fareboxes
