The Karsan Atak is a low floor midibus sold in Europe and North America. It was unveiled, under its code name "CXL", at Busworld Kortrijk in October 2013.[1] The Atak made it's formal debut at the Busworld Turkey Fair the following year.[2] In 2016, Karsan introduced the bus to Canada at that year's Ontario Transportation Expo. It has been looked at by various transit agencies in the province.
The 8-metre, integrally constructed bus provides passengers with level boarding. A wide middle door allows for wheelchair access. The Atak shares the same dashboard, front and rear fascia, as well as some side panels as it's tourist sibling the Star. A stainless steel frame is an option for both models.
At the IAA Hannover Expo in September 2018, Karsan introduced the prototype Atak Electric. The bus features five 44 kilowatt-hour batteries from BMW and a 230 kilowatt traction motor. It has a range of 300 kilometres and can be fully recharged in 2.5 hours. Karsan expected the first production buses to be on the road in the Summer of 2019.[3] In June 2019, Karsan launched the Atak Electric at an event in Munich, Germany co-organized with BMW. They also introduced a new look to the Atak.[4]
The new appearance marked the Atak's second generation. The front end features a black centre panel, "L"-shaped daytime running lights, and sweeping, angular headlights. The rear has more black surfaces with tail lights in an intricate pattern. The driver's area of the new Atak has improved ergonomics and layout, also meeting Association of German Transport Companies (VDV) specification.
